March 29 Meeting: Terror in Iran and Resisting Imperialist War

Trump and Netanyahu have unleashed hell in starting a war with Iran that threatens to drag the entire region into crisis and destruction. Thousands have been killed as schools, hospitals and neighborhoods have been hit in Iran, while Israel steps up attacks on Lebanon and the West Bank, and the US threatens Cuba. But while Trump was counting on a quick and violent intervention, the war continues to be vastly unpopular even at home, and is threatening the US—and world—economy.

Trump has again temporarily paused his threatened “obliteration” of Iran’s energy infrastructure, with an eye on the stock market, but is also sending thousands of troops to the region. Trump’s Pentagon has asked Congress for an unprecedented $200 billion to fund the ongoing Iran war.

We must say clearly “No to war! No to US intervention!” We oppose US and Israeli backed regime change and the return of the foreign-backed monarchists. This does not mean support for the Iranian government, now even more firmly in the hands of the paramilitary. As the Workers’ Union of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company stated after the killing of thousands of protesters by the security forces in January this year: “we repeat it again—the path to the liberation of workers and toilers does not lie in the path of a leader carved from above the people, nor in reliance on foreign powers, nor through factions within the government.” US attacks and sanctions only increase misery of the Iranian people, and make there struggles more difficult.

Join a presentation and discussion on the dynamics of the conflict and the prospects for resistance to imperialism from the Middle East to the West. This Sunday, March 29, 11am Pacific and 2pm Eastern time. Marx21 Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9132004856
